Part 3 Setup A Setup B Note: Figures not drawn to scale. Students constructed two experimental setups A and B, as shown above. Each setup consists of a small block of known mass M attached to a string of negligible mass, where the string in setup A is shorter than the string in setup B. The tops of the strings are fixed in place. The blocks are held so that the strings make an angle 9 (theta) with the vertical. The blocks are then released from rest. 1) Consider the instant in each block's motion when the string is vertical. Is the speed of the block at this instant greater for setup A, greater for setup B, or the same for both setups? 2) The acceleration is the same for both blocks when the strings are vertical.
