Her team took the gold medal for Women's hockey at the last Olympics Wendy had such a big following that three years ago she rented the local ice rink in Truro and opened a hockey school during the summer Players came from all across Canada and Europe They were billeted with local families for 12 weeks from June to August There are seven other hockey schools across Atlantic Canada for Junior league players. However, Wendy has the only school with adult and international players. Her school attracts about half is players from the Canadian Women's Hockey league (CWHL) and the other half from the Eite Women's Hockey League (EWHL) in Europe. She is constantly tuming away junior players Wendy's Canadian players are recruited by word of mouth through her connections with Team Canada They are mostly 19 and 20 years old (Junior league age) who can't stand billeting and want free swag for attending. Truro has six hotels in the area but the cost is too high and insurance against damages too expensive. They come to Wendy's school for the opportunity to compete with European players Wendys European players are recruited by word of mouth through her connections with the loc They are mostly 22 23 or 24 years old and enjoy staying with local families. However har don't speak English or French They like coming to Truro because there are not supervised but some drop out at the last minute because their families expect them to be chaperoned Each player pays $300CDN or the equivalent in Euros. She collects $270 000 from 40 players then pays 596,000 to the families who bilet them and 545,000 for exclusive use of the benink to the Colchester Legion Stadium She pays herself 540,000 per year as Head Coach hires a friend as Assistant Coach for sc months at $20,000 and hires a local as Program Co-ordinator at $30,000 for nine months This leaves Wendy with 529.000 at the end of the camp if all goes well. Last year she was short 5 players so Wendy dipped into her personal salary to come up with the sink money which is due 6 months in advance Wendy runs one cash flow projection at mid season and a balance sheet and income statement at year end Her Program Co-ordinator produces a weekly sales report up until the start of camp. The Assistant Coach tracks reports, lateness for practice and bilet issues each week during camp Wendy then runs an anonymous satisfaction survey with the players and host families four weeks after. Truro is hosting the Word Junior league in December of 2017 Wendy's growth goal is to expand to a second ink and run a parallel program for Canadian Junior leagues. She also wants to break out of the summer season. A spring-break camp would be a good start but weather in the month of March is very unpredictable How would you advise Wendy to grow her business? 1.
