Peter has been asked to lead a new cross$-$functional team, formed for the purpose of evaluatirig and resolving a quality control issue that's recently developed in the manufacturing area: Peter is familiar with team development and performance models, which will likely be helpful since none of the team members have worked together on a team before. Initial interactions were professional and calm; as team lead Peter proceed to clarify the team's purpose and set$-$up with them the preferred ground rules. As the project work began, it appeared that progress was being made and Peter was relieved. This didn't last long though; soon conflicts emerged regarding the goals, roles, and contributions of various team members. There were successful efforts at cohesiveness by some members and some work accomplished; however, the challenging interactions continued and several members threatened to quit the team, making it impossible to normalize relationships and for work progress.
