Please answer all the questions in Tasks under BLOCKs .

I will use that information to make videos, , each demonstrating one complete (full 45 mins) group exercise session

BLOCK 2: PLAN GROUP EXERCISE SESSION

What You Need for Block 2

  • This workbook
  • Three (3) groups of AT LEAST six (6) individuals as outlined below:
    • One (1) group of predominantly (i.e. 4 or more) older adults (55 years or older)
    • One (1) group of predominantly (i.e. 4 or more) females
    • One (1) group of predominantly (i.e. 4 or more) males

Task 1: Participant Needs Analysis

Group Reasons/Goals for training - List all participants answers
Older Adults
Females
Males
How will you accommodate your clients goals into your group session design?
Group I will accommodate the goals of my groups in my sessions by...
Example

Goal 1 - better coordination: in my session I will incorporate multi-directional movements and agility work to increase coordination patterns

Goal 2 - increase cardiovascular fitness: in my session I will use interval based cardiovascular work to enable a higher heart rate during the session for an anaerobic focus in the session, leading to a higher aerobic response later through EPOC

Older Adults
Females
Males
For each group, list the exercising abilities of your participants, any special requirements for the individuals of the group and characteristics you need to consider when developing your program.
Example There are 2 beginners, 3 intermediates and 1 advanced participant in the group. Will need to use a multi-level approach with exercises showing a range of progressions and regressions for the same exercise.

Females
Males

  1. . Use case studies to answer this question andDetermine how this information will be used to modify your session.

Case Study 1

Dennis is a 55 year old male who has recently been diagnosed with hypertension.

He used to exercise 10 years ago and has decided to get back into it to keep up

with his first grandchild who is on their way.

Dennis went to see his doctor about his hypertension and is cleared to exercise.

He is not on medication, his condition is stable.

His goals are to lose some weight (around 5kg) and build strength while

increasing and managing his cardiovascular health.

Case Study 2

Ebony is a 32 year old female who experiences knee pain during exercise,

predominantly during things that are focused on one leg such as lunges or high

impact running.

Ebony tore her left ACL ligament in her knee 10 years ago while playing netball

and while recovered and cleared to exercise, neglected to keep up with her

rehabilitation her physiotherapist gave her.

Ebony's goal is to improve her knee health, build strength and get back into

netball fitness in one years time.

Case Study 3

Simon is a 28 year old male who experiences general lower back pain. He enjoys

gaming and has only recently started getting into fitness after leading a fairly

sedentary lifestyle for the last 15 years.

Simon has put on some weight over this time and is looking at losing 10-15kg over

the next 1-2 years as he builds his cardiovascular fitness as well.

He took up exercise 3 weeks ago and is really enjoying it, but finds his core needs

some work to help his back.
