Post 1:Jane's decision to opt for Tylenol Sinus over cheaper generic alternatives like Equate or Life brand despite a 25% price difference can be attributed to many factors. The main reasoning maybe the phenomenon of price-quality perception that may have influenced her choice, as consumers often associate higher prices with superior quality (Shapiro, 1983). Tylenol's established reputation for effectiveness and its premium pricing strategy could have contributed to this also (Putsis & Dhar, 2001). Jane might also have been influenced by the "perceived"risk of choosing a less-known generic product especially before taking her interview.

In my opinion her decision is reasonable if I take the mentioned reasons above into consideration. Although generic medication often offer the same active ingredients at lower prices and are often recommended by the professionals such as pharmacists, brand loyalty and perceived quality might still outweigh the cost difference for some people.. Jane's choice is rational when we evaluate the assurance and reliability associated with the Tylenol brand. However, if her decision was solely reliant on the higher price equating to better quality without considering the actual medical efficacy, I would say she is being unreasonable with her decision.

Post 2: There could be a few different reasons Jane would choose Tylenol Sinus over the generic brand. One reason could be quality. The next day is a big day for Jane, she wants to ensure that she is able to get an adequate amount of rest so that she can be on top of her game the next day. As we learned in our textbook the psychology of pricing, consumers often link price with quality, we assume that if we are paying a higher price than it must be better quality. After all, as the saying goes you get what you pay for. Just because an item has a higher price doesnt always mean it will be higher quality. The reverse is also true. Just because an item has a lower price doesnt necessarily mean its quality is bad. Its important to research the products you are looking at purchasing (Dabb, 2021)

Another reason Jane could have gone for Tylenol over the generic brand could be brand loyalty. Repeat purchases of a particular brand based on the perception of higher quality and better service than any competitoris not dependent on price (Kopp, 2023). Or perhaps Tylenols marketing teams are that good that they have made Tylenol a house hold name. This is an example of a trademarked word, these words become so common they often replace the generic term for the item, like Kleenex or Q tips (Honeycutt, 2020).

Circling back to being an informed consumer, if Jane was an informed consumer, she would know that Tylenol Sinus and Equate Sinus are not the same. The Tylenol brands active ingredients include acetaminophen a pain reliever as well as phenylephrine which is a decongestant. Meanwhile the active ingredients in Equate Sinuss active ingredient are only pseudoephedrine (Daily Med, n.d.).

In conclusion, I think Janes decision to purchase the 25% more Tylenol brand over the less expensive Equate brand is reasonable.

Jane may have chosen the Tylenol brand because of her past good experience using the medicine brand, If Jane had used the Tylenol brand and it worked giving her a positive experience, she was more likely to choose the brand over other brands she had not used before. Additionally, the high price of Tylenol may have made Jane believe that the brand had high-quality medications. Most people associate high prices with quality (Dholakia, 2018). The fact that the Tylenol medicine brand had higher prices may have made Jane believe that Tylenol medicine was of better quality than other brands. Jane could have bought the Tylenol brand because of brand loyalty. If Jane only uses the Tylenol brand of medicine, she was more likely to purchase the Tylenol brand over other brands. She might have high loyalty to the brand due to its quality medicine.

Like Jane, I always buy Tylenol no matter what it cost over cheap brands. I guess because of

experience using it and proving to work each time and the packaging it well appealing.

Also, given that Jane's headache occurred the night before her interview for a promotion, she might have been in a hurry to find relief. Familiarity with Tylenol could have led her to choose it quickly without investing time in researching other options. As I won't try to look at the price if it's higher because I've had success with the same brand and know it's reliable. Which would cause Jane to perceive the Equate or Life brands as riskier alternatives to unfamiliarity or effectiveness-related worries. We could refer to it as loyalty. (Kopp, 2023).
