Preferably scholarly (peer-reviewed journals) or governmental (CMS, OIG, OIT, etc.) or trade industry (AHIMA, HIMSS, HFMA, etc.). Chapter 27 in the Oachs & Watters book may also be helpful. We read about ethical considerations in leadership this week. We did not specifically read about legal or payment/financial issues; however, in healthcare decision very often have legal or financial implications. For our discussion I'd like you to address two topics. PART 1 What do you believe is the difference between ethical and legal? If something is legal, is it by default ethical? Are there ethical decisions that are not legal? (Sources needed to support your conclusipn) PART 2 Getting to a specific ethical area, share with the class a source/article which addresses ethical issues in the healthcare financial process (documentation. coding, billing/claims, reimbursement, collections are some potential topics). What are your thoughts on this topic? Have you ever been a part of healthcare financial decision which had potential ethical considerations? (Not trying to apprehend any ethics violators here, just sharing experiences!) Respond to at least 1 classmate.
