PLEASE ANSWER THIS PROMPT QUESTION INDIVIDUALLY
Prompt:
1. What are current barriers to voter turnout?
2. What changes can be made to increase voter turnout?
3. How will greater voter turnout affect our public policies? What laws could change?
-------------------------------
PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS POST WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THESE THREE POSTS OF OTHERS, PLEASE DO RESPONSE INDIVIDUALLY.
1. There are several current barriers to voter turnout, including voter suppression tactics. Some states have implemented laws and practices that make it harder for certain groups of people to vote, such as requiring strict voter ID laws, reducing the number of polling places or early voting days, and purging voter rolls. There are several changes that can be made to increase voter turnout, including expanding polling locations, ensuring that there are enough polling stations, especially in places where it is densely populated, which can make it easier for voters to cast their ballots without having to wait in long lines. Greater voter turnout typically leads to more representative and democratic public policies. When more people participate in the electoral process, elected officials are more likely to take into account the diverse viewpoints and needs of their constituents, rather than catering to a small group of influential individuals or interest groups. Higher voter turnout may also lead to policy changes that promote greater access to voting, such as early voting, no-excuse absentee voting, and automatic voter registration. These policy changes tend to empower more people to participate in the democratic process, which can in turn result in more responsive and equitable policies.
2. One barrior that i can think of that is significant for voter turnout is the voting hours. Some people work seven days a week and don't have the time to go vote. I think if we could enure 24 hour voting that would help get more people out to vote. Also some poeple who work night shift might have ahard time voting and there are so many people that work nights. I imagine this would cause a way better turnout if we could open those voiting sites to 24 hours. If we could get a better voter turnout i think the elections would be more accurate to how the people want them to turn out. I personally know of many people who don't vote but have an opinion. ,If those people would vote, we could change how the elections turn out. At the end of the day, voter barriers are a leading cause of a lot of controversy in the united states today. If everyone who had an opuinion actually got up and voted, or was about to vote dependant on what is keeping them from voting, them i think we could get someone in office that majority of people actually want in there. I feel this issue contiunes over and over every term and there are always poeple mad about who won yet didnt vot, or was unable to vote due to their barriers such as the poll times as listed above.
3. I feel as though some of the barriers in particular are access to polling places, not having enough knowledge about the different roles in the government, no knowledge of individuals running. Maybe individuals who don't have access to a voting facility can do mail in voting. I guess it comes down to educating individuals about this particular voting option for it to be utilized more. If people knew how this option counts towards votes they would be more apt to do so. One thing I hear from people all the time on why they don't vote is my vote doesn't matter anyways. Everyone's opinions matter including voting. I feel as though as a U.S citizen it is a privilege to be able to participate in who our elected officials are. Other countries don't have this same privilege so why aren't we using our rights and do our part. If employers were to work voting time in as a paid time off from work I feel as though a lot more people would vote. Having distrust for the mail in ballots, due to past issues with this system, having a more streamlined and secure mail in process. The problem is confidence in trusting the process is another issue for some. If everyone were to utilize their voice on issues and policies more than we would have room for discussions to change or amend policies. You can't change if you don't participate is what I'm saying.
