Anna decides to talk to owner Ken Sims and he suggests that she bring you in to advise her. You are a knowledge worker and you have studied Busi 237. After talking to Anna and several of the staff in the production department you tell Anna that they should build their own system. She is quite shocked at this advice but you assure her that a few of her business experts are technology-literate knowledge workers and they have the skills required to build a smaller information system. You also suggest to Anna that she let you work with the business experts to help them get started. You start off by emphasizing to the business experts that there are some important things they need to consider before they start building the system. You explain to them that building this small information system by themselves means that there is one specific point that will make their job easier than building an enterprisewide information system. You leave them to complete the system and when the manager calls on you a few weeks later you find out that the business experts built the system but no one wants to use it. Before you talk to the business experts you already suspect what went wrong. You tell Anna that they should be allowed to rebuild the system and you will stay with them until it is complete. Finally the other end users in the production department are happy with the new system and they start using it. The business experts are congratulating themselves and are ready to go back to their regular duties. You remind them that their job is not done.
