TOPIC: PROJECT QUALITY MANAGEMENT

1. If faced with increasing pressure to get a project done ahead of time, what steps should a project manager take if he feels this will jeopardize project quality?

The steps a project manager should take when being pressured to get a project done is to follow the stages of the project life cycle. The project manager should focus on the risks of rushing the project and do everything to mitigate those risks. There needs to be some realistic goals set for a project. Realistic goals meaning they can be accomplished in the schedule time with the amount of resources available. Delaying a project is bad but rushing a project is also just as bad which is why projects shouldn't be rushed or else it can affect the budget and the overall project.

2 Suppose that rather than time, the pressure is to do more with less, that is to accomplish the same scope with staff cuts and budget cuts. Does that change your answer? That is, what steps should a PM take if he feels this will jeopardize project quality?

No that would not change the answer because the goals still remain the same which is to get the project completed on time. In the case of budget cuts, the Project Manager would have to work within the reasonable price range so the impact of the scope can be minimized but it depends on how bad the budget cut is since some budget cuts will require things be removed from the scope of the project.

3 In addition to the effects that a rushed project might have on project quality, what kind of short-term and long-term effects might it have on project team members?

The Short-term effect is mental stress and pressure being put on both the Project Manager and the employees. The Project Manager is the leader of the project so the project succeeds or fail under his leadership. The mental stress a rushed project can put on Managers can sometimes be too hard to handle. One of the best things to do with handling the stress of a project is to prioritize which means to assign every task based on the urgency of that task and how important the task is. Also, meditation is a good stress reliever project manager and employees should consider. Long term effects will be the outcome of the project meaning how well the project is done because when stressed out projects sometimes don't do well.

4 What kind of short-term and long-term effects might it have on the organization or corporation itself?

The Short-Term effect is that employees will start to lash out at each other and become frustrated because of all the pressure placed on them which will negatively impact how work is completed. The stakeholder will also become frustrated because his/her requirements are not being met on time. Long term effect is that it puts an overall bad look on the company as well as the employees.
