Please comment on this response, concerning the TED Talk, "How We Can Find Ourselves in Data" by Giorgia Lupi:

This TED talk was interesting to say the least. Giorgia Lupi did a good job at explining the downsides of obsessing too much about data - at least, in the wrong ways.

She gave great demonstrations of data visualization models, for example the tool that was developed to track an astronaut in the ISS.

Also, the experiment she ran with her friend to manually write down certain data points throughout the day was very clever and surprisingly eye-opening about certain human behaviors. I'm not sure if I would personally have the patience to keep track of every single time I say "thank you" or check the time, but Giorgia's commitment to that project is admirable and was able to shed light on the power of data in a context of "humanizing" it.

Giorgia's main point is to not be limited by data as abstract measurements or numbers, but rather leverage data in order to tell a story - something that can be seen, felt and directly attributed to human behaviors.

I frankly agree with Giorgia in that data, like in the 2016 presidential election, can be overestimated, or oversimplified. It has the power to truly sway public opinoins, for better or for worse. So, it's equally as important to become well-versed with data and becoming skilled at visualizing data in various ways to tell certain stories.
