Prioritizing and updating a project backlog are two of the main jobs of a product owner. Product owners are responsible for the steering the vison of the product the stakeholders want. They must also take into account the work capacity of their development team to handle all of the ideas the stakeholders have. The product owner must be able to prioritize the project backlog by working with the development team to assign each 'story' an agreed upon value representing how difficult and how long it will take to accomplish. By doing this, they can determine how many stories to work on at any given time. They can also sort the stories from vague to straight forward. Starting with the straight forward stories might give the team insight on the more vague ideas the stakeholders are asking for. Keeping up with the backlog as the stories come in and are discussed with the team will help steam line each sprint and help avoid the team feeling overwhelmed and lose motivation and ultimately become less productive than they otherwise would be$.$
