I believe that a person and teachers will make moral decisions on a personal level using their experiences to help guide their beliefs. When giving tests and assessments in education, we have to think about the morality and ethical way of giving them. We have been taught that we want all students to take the assessments simultaneously and in the same conditions to get the most accurate reading of their understanding. However, I have students who struggle to complete the tests in the time frame, stay focused on the test, or be emotional, okay to take the test with the rest of the class. I believe it's up to the teacher to do what is right for the child to set them up for success; some students will need extra time or breaks that other students don't need to finish. I have a teacher at my school and in my team that won't offer any support, guidance, or help to students, they tell them it's a test, and they can't help. I will clarify questions if it's confusing, read directions, read the passages to students who can't read, and print the test for those who can't focus on it digitally. This is something I do for my students in my class, but it's not what is supposed to be done, I talked with the students' parents about my concerns about their academics, and these are some of the ways I am trying to help them improve and do their best. Reading the passages, questions, and answers to the students allows me to see where the students need extra support and lack understanding. This will enable me to work on the student's techniques and skills to grow to succeed in future assignments and assessments. However, when students are given district assessments, I tell them I can't provide them with any assistance, and they need to try their best. I still check in on students whom I know struggle to make sure they are on task and trying. Teachers face the dilemma of doing what ethical and/or moral every day is, and it can be challenging to figure out what to do. We must try to balance the standards while making sure we are supporting each student's needs. This will look different in every classroom since we all have our own beliefs, experiences, students, and feelings on how things should be done in our classroom.
