Please do all 3 tasks with your own words ( no AI no plagiarism). FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!!

  1. Complete and submit Part 1 of the Research Paper.
  2. Complete and submit the Annotated Bibliography assignment.
  3. Read the Surviving Research Papers, Using Sources in Essay 3, MLA Guidelines, Intro to Rhetorical Devices, Writing the First Draft and Sample Work Cited Page pages.

1. In a one page response, tell me why is homeschooling good for children?

What are some of the reasons you are initially interested in this topic? What do you hope to discover through research? Do you have a personal investment in this issue? (You could use personal experiences for examples of pathos in your essay).

What search terms will you use to research this subject? What angles can you use to approach this issue? What kinds of arguments could you make about this issue?

2. The Annotated Bibliography has two or three parts, depending on the instructor's assignment. We will only be doing two parts: an MLA 8 citation and a summary for three of our ten sources. (Other instructors may ask you to include how you will use the source in the essay). I don't care which three sources you use (journal article, newspaper article, magazine article, etc) as long as the sources are from our library databases.

This assignment will allow me to see if you are grasping the concepts of citing before the Works Cited page at the end of your essay and help you if you are lost. The Annotated Bibliography also gives me an idea of what articles you are finding. Take this seriously -

I have posted the MLA guidelines for citing in this module, but Ebscohost and JSTOR, the databases we are using on the school's databases, will cite for you as well. You may also use easybib.com or other free citation systems. Just note that you will have to format the citations after pasting them for on the databases or the free websites.

SAMPLE CITATION AND SUMMARY

Martin, Carol. "Bodies of Evidence."The AmericanReview of Post ModernDrama, vol.50,no. 3, 2006, pp. 8-15.JSTOR, http://www.jstor.org/stable/4492691, Accessed 5 Oct2016.

(This citation should be double spaced with the second, third and fourth lines indented to the right!)

In Carol Martin's essay "Bodies of Evidence," Martin analyzes what she calls "contemporary documentary theatre." Focusing mostly on post 9/11 plays, Martin argues that many recent plays focus on the "urgency of the struggle over the future of the past" and ask questions like how we should view real events like the Matthew Shepard case. Martin uses Moises Kaufman'sThe Laramie Projectas an example of the different approaches employed in documentary theatre. Martin ends her essay with a reflection on truth and reality: "what is real and what is true are not necessarily the same. A text can be fictional yet true. A text can be nonfictional yet untrue. Documentary theatre is an imperfect answer" because "unlike any other form of theatre, it claims to have bodies of evidence." These kinds of evidence, Martin argues, are as varied as those we rely on in our own lives.

NOTE: YOU WILL HAVE 3 CITATIONS TOTAL. ALPHABETIZE BY THE FIRST LETTER OF EACH CITATION.

3. In 5-7 pages, (the fifth page must be full, to the bottom, for full points) create an argumentative research paper which explores the education related issue you have chosen in a purposeful way. Your purpose for writing will not only be shaped by your own analysis of the issue but also by the common focuses shared by other published scholars and the angles they use to discuss the issue.

You will be joining this ongoing academic conversation with your own evaluations of the issue and by citing evidence from your sources. You will need to introduce each source you quote or paraphrase in the text of your paper, fully interpret and analyze the quotations AND use parenthetical documentation to credit these sources.

Remember that even though you are writing a research paper, your ideas are still the focus of the essay. You must use at least one example of each of the Aristotelian appeals of ethos, pathos and logos in your argument. You must also use 3 different rhetorical devices (I'll introduce these soon) and 5 different kinds of claims. Your paper will have a Works Cited page which follows MLA conventions and contains a minimum of 10 or more sources.

Required Sources:2 Book Articles, 2 Journal Articles, 2 Magazine Articles, 2 Newspaper Articles, 2 Articles from Internet Sites or 2 other sources of any kind. YOU MUST USE AND CITE THE ARC LIBRARY DATABASES FOR THESE SOURCES.

*NOTE: Your Works Cited page will list 10 or more sources, but you only need to quote or paraphrase from 5 of your 10 sources in the essay itself.
