In determing how many functions f : A - B are onto, a student proposes that the answer is 35 - 3 x 25. The reason provided is that when counting functions which are not onto, if we consider those which exclude 1 e B, then the number of possibilities is 25, and similarly for excluding 2, 3 e B, giving a total of 35 - 3 x 25 functions which are not onto. Explain why this answer is wrong, and determine whether the correct number is more than, or less than, the proposal. Justify your solution. You do not need to compute the actual number of onto functions
