Assignment 1

1. Perform brief research of the steps needed to establish your own contracting business (Sole Proprietorship or Partnership) in Miami-Dade County. Provide the following:
   • Steps that need to be taken to establish your business (LIST THEM)
   • A list of paperwork and forms that need to be filled (you do not need to actually fill them) (LIST THEM)
2. You, and two of your friends, are starting a new firm for construction services. You are planning to hire a maximum of three (3) employees to work for your company for a maximum total company size of five (5) people. Design a company structure to effectively and efficiently compete in the market and run day-to-day tasks. Your answer should include the following:
   • Your choice of legal form: partnership, limited liability company, or small-sized private corporation? Explain your choice.
   • An introductory paragraph briefly describing your and your friend expertise and how you believe major responsibilities should be split among you based on the selected legal form.
   • An organizational chart showing the division responsibilities and lines of supervision for the five (5) employees
   • A matrix (i.e staffing plan) showing the company operating chart that defines the working relationships between company five (5) personnel.
   • A job description including responsibilities and duties (in bullet points and using action verbs) for each the five (5) employees in the company.

You are encouraged to use the list of duties in Lecture 05 as a starting point. You can also limit the number of essential duties to 10 major tasks, which need to be split between the company personnel. Therefore, your staffing plan will have ten (10) rows representing the functions/tasks and up to five (5) columns representing the company personnel.
