Professional accountants often work in teams to complete projects for their clients or employers. This is especially true in auditing and in forensic accounting engagements such as fraud examinations. Teams usually work together best when they agree upfront on the team's goals and how they will work together to achieve them. This should be documented in a team charter.

Each team will establish a team charter at its first meeting. At a minimum, the charter should address the following:

1) Who's a member and how team members will contact each other outside of class (include phone numbers/email addresses as applicable). If using UW Zoom, each team should set up its own meetings.

2) Norms for treating each other (what does treating teammates with dignity and respect look like in each team?).

3)Skills each team member can contribute; skills each team member wants to develop.

4) Team goals. These include completing project assignments on time according to the rubrics, but there may be more.

5) Potential barriers to achieving team goals.

6) Accountability procedures, including:

a) Schedule for team meetings outside of class.

b) Task assignments.

c) Responsibilities to communicate if members can't complete tasks when due.

d) Redistributing workload if team members can't complete tasks when due--because the team is still responsible.
