'PLEASE HELP ME!!! DEFEND ANSWER. I WILL GIVE A

On November 15 each year, Adam Dark was required to submit to top manage- ment a forecast of sales for the coming year. To that end, on September 30, the account managers received kits and detailed instructions about how to use the en- closed forms to generate sales forecasts for each of their territories. The company's overall sales forecast was then a composite of the account managers' forecasts. Since the company sold to a relatively small number of large customers that were well known to the account managers, Dark thought the system worked quite well. Actual sales each year were within plus or minus 10 percent of the sales forecast. All of the company planning, including setting sales quotas, was then based on those sales forecasts. These sales quotas became important because sales force bonuses were awarded according to how well the account managers performed in relationship to their quotas. Thus, each salesperson's forecast was carefully appraised by management. If it appeared to be off-base, Dark would go over it with the account manager, and the two would come to some agree- ment about what sales from her or his territory would be. As the two top salespeople stepped up to receive their awards at the com- pany holiday party, where year-end bonuses were distributed, an account man- ager named Scott Stevens yelled from the back of the room, Sandbaggers!" There was some laughter and some embarrassment. Adam Dark said nothing at the time, but a couple days later he found him- self alone with Stevens. "What was that sandbagging business all about?" Dark asked him. Come on, Adam, Stevens replied. Don't play innocent with me. Every- one knows the game and how to play it. Those two award winners are just bet- ter than others at selling you their forecasts." Dark let the matter drop without comment, but he was deeply bothered by the implication that he was being conned by these two account managers. Question: What should Adam Dark do about this matter
