What is your business case for pursuing your MBA? Are there opportunities within the MBA program, or higher education in general, for innovation? If not, what about in an industry you are interested in pursuing? How can you help facilitate this innovation or make it a reality?

Like most, the initial call was for career advancement within the healthcare sector, but with a degree that still allowed for similar growth should I change to a different career field. I also believe if you're in a management position, you should be able to develop a skill set that helps you to understand why senior administration is making the decisions at hand (or perhaps shouldn't be)-whether it be from a supply chain aspect or the handling of staffing shortages., etc. Traditionally, an MBA pathway may be more in tune with budgetary/planning/performance optimization. However, pivoting also to highlight employee well-being is becoming increasingly important, particularly with a heightened emphasis on burnout within healthcare over the past couple of years.

Within the compliance field, the "check-the-box" compliance program outlines that some health systems have utilized for years have been shown to be problematic. This is not only from potential patient safety issue aspect but also from a monetary regulatory front as well. In the rural setting where I work, the usage of different or more modern technological monitoring software (compliance/risk management/audit/incident reporting) has been at somewhat of a standstill, as some are reluctant to learn a new one or adapt. Using several dated systems slows processes that could be automated with a more all-encompassing, integrated platform, ultimately creating more work on the back end. While this isn't necessarily the most cutting-edge concept, it will still help bring certain health systems up to date and streamline efforts similar to their larger counterparts.
