In this project you are going to find your own dataset. This should be a raw dataset. That means you should have a set of data where each unit of observation has data for several variables. A lot of times I see tables confused with raw datasets. You should expect it to take a while to find a dataset that will work. It can be difficult to find raw data. Do not pay for raw datasets. There are plenty of free ones out there! Google raw datasets, or open datasets about whatever you find interesting. You should be able to download them (or copy them) and then upload them into Rguroo. Everyone should be working with their own dataset. Where did your dataset come from? Do you think this is a reliable source? Please put a link to your dataset in your report.

Analyze your Dataset

I would like to see datasets that have at least 50 rows of data (although you can have a lot more!). Your data should have at least 2 qualitative variables and 2 quantitative variables. Identify them. What is your unit of observation? What is your population? Your sample? You will discuss what is interesting to you about the dataset. When you look at this dataset what questions pop into your head? We may or may not be able to answer these questions, but this is where inferential statistics begin. Are we able to answer questions that pop up? Can we make educated guesses based on the dataset we have? How likely are we to be right?

Part of the point of this is that you have datasets that are very large, so it doesn't make sense to do calculations by hand. This is realistic to real life! However, it is important that even though a computer does computations, or makes graphs, that you can interpret what these numbers and graphs are telling you about the data.

Graphical Representation

Choose a variable to make a histogram, and choose a variable to make a pie chart. Your graphs should be showing the frequency of the data values. Your graphs should also have a title and axis labels. I should know what I am looking at when I look at the graphs! After you have Rguroo make graphs I want you to have a short discussion on what insight each of these graphs gives you on the variables that you chose. What did you learn about your dataset? Your report should have pictures of each graph with your discussion below it.

Correlation

Now you will make a scatterplot. Does your data seem to have a linear correlation? What kind? How strong is it? Find the regression line, the correlation coefficient, and the coefficient of determination. Use your regression line to interpolate and extrapolate. Interpret what you find when you do. Discuss the validity of each. Look at the correlation coefficient and the coefficient of determination. What do each of those tell you about your dataset?

Descriptive Statistics

Choose a variable and find the mean, median, mode, range, five number summary, and standard deviation. These are called your descriptive statistics. What do they tell you about your dataset? Don't repeat the values, but discuss what knowledge this gives you to the data that was gathered. You should also make a boxplot as a visual representation of the 5 number summary.
