The student was seeking a discount for a study aide published by Central Publishing Incorporated for a course she was taking with Santa Maria State College. In that correspondence, the student wrote, in relevant part, "I am associated with Santa Maria State College, and I am inquiring whether their may be a discount for the following studying aide..." The publisher through further inquiry found out that the student is a student and not an employee or faculty member of Santa Maria State College and believed/made the accusation that the student was attempting to commit fraud by passing herself off as an employee or faculty member of Santa Maria State College. Central Publishing Incorporated contacted the local district attorney's office where Santa Maria State College is located. This student is now being accused of violating A.R.S. 18-542.
