The client is a student at Copper State College. The student has gotten into some threatened legal action because of an e-mail that she sent to Central Publishing Incorporated. The student was seeking a discount for a study aide published by Central Publishing Incorporated for a course she was taking with Copper State College. In that correspondence, the student wrote, in relevant part, "I am associated with Copper State College, and I am inquiring whether their may be a discount for the following studying aide..."

The publisher through further inquiry found out that the student is a student and not an employee or faculty member of Copper State College and believed/made the accusation that the student was attempting to commit fraud by passing herself off as an employee or faculty member of Copper State College.

Central Publishing Incorporated contacted the local district attorney's office where Copper State College is located. This student is now being accused of violating A.R.S. 18-542. In order to mount a defense for the client, the attorney charged with the case has asked you to perform some legislative research regarding A.R.S. 18-542.
