Group Dynamics Observation and Personal Reflection-Weight 20% Students are required to observe a group experience. This observation can be of a group being run by a local service agency, within their field practicum setting, or an observation based on their current participation within a community wellness group. If you are observing a community group for your assignment you must request and obtain permission from an agency administrator and a group leader to observe the group and inform them of the reason for the observation. In all situations of group observation or participation and observation students must respect and keep confidentiality. Students are to observe the group experience (in person or on the video) and take notes while you observe if appropriate to do so. Following the observation write an observation summary/personal reflection that includes the following information: Observation summary: 1. Identify what you observed (video, community group) 2. Identify the purpose of the group and describe what goals for group participants that are evident. 3. Describe the group composition, leadership model and structure. 4. Describe the theoretical orientation of the group and explain two examples of leadership techniques observed. 5. Identify the stage(s) of the group and provide a description of what observations demonstrate the stage(s). If more than one stage is observed, focus on one stage that you observed. Personal Reflection: 1. As you observed the group experience what stands out most for you? Did you notice any thoughts, worries, feelings about running this type of group? 2. What did you notice about the group dynamics and how do they compare or contrast to the content that you have learned in the course. Why do you think this is occurring? 3. Identify any areas you think you would need further development on in order to facilitate this group and how you would pursue this learning? The paper must be between 800-1200 words. Since this is a narrative about your experience (similar to a case study) it is acceptable to use the "first person" perspective. Include a title page and submit to Dropbox.
