Over the years other employees had fallen through the mesh, and one of them had been killed by falling into a large vat of boiling possum tails. When Bohemus and Gomer were asked by their supervisor to perform tasks that would require them to walk on the mesh, they refused. Gomer told the supervisor that he was afraid of heights as the basis for his refusal. Bohemus told the supervisor that he had a dream that gave him a premonition that if he ever got on the mesh he would fall and suffer bodily harm. Because of their refusal to do the requested work, Bohemus and Gomer were fired from their jobs. They loved their jobs and protested being fired.
