What is interdepartmental interaction in your organization
The organization was a small practice a fee for service practice with a solo specialist practitioner. The department head when she worked at Georgetown Hospital and INOVA
Department head Chief or and doctors answered to the doctors’ head. She worked with specialty medicine her whole career.

What is communication in your organization?
Usually by email – meetings were once a month for small practice and hospital
What is the hardest component of communicating in your organization?
Interpretation of emails – getting people to do the hard work
Team building activities and conflict resolution techniques
What type of team building activities?
None of the jobs had team building activities planned but we would all have lunch together when the pharmaceutical rep visited.
Did it work? What was the outcome? No, everyone was busy.
What conflict resolution techniques are used?
Andrea’s background is in counseling, so she used her counseling background to bring resolution through talking individually, but if a write up was needed then proper protocol was used.
Ethics and workplace diversity programming
What are ethics in your organization?
We treated the patients in the smaller organization as family. There is no diversity program. Ethically they were right on target. There wasn’t a diversity program in the hospital – they based hiring off of skill and resume.
What type of diversity programming is in action? No diversity program.
How did the organization develop this programming?
Proposed operational changes including influences on operations and budgets
What proposed operational changes were implemented?
We had to increase fees, stop accepting insurance companies and canceled all contracts.
How are budgets developed for your organization?
Andrea usually developed the budget for the small practice. She handled it as she did her home financing and set up a system and made changes as needed. Andrea ordered accordingly.
What controls are incorporated to measure performance and progress?
Employee review – meetings were scheduled in-between before the yearly review. The organization never really incorporatedcontrols. They focused on the
budget and those showed deficiencies.
Did the changes influence business growth?
Prices increased and that influenced the budget and operations budget increased. The business stayed the same. The supply chain affected business as well; even a year after COVID-19 there are still deficiencies.
