I think that the functional structure is the most effective. This structure has several key strengths that enable companies to be more sucessful than the other structures. The first major strength is that it is more flexible than the other structures. Organizing the company based off of its functional departments allows employees within these units to communicate more and share their resources. This contrasts with the divisional organizational structure because employees in different divisions cannot share information with each other. They are too specialized in their product line and do not have the knowledge or expertise to work on other products or share resources. Functional oranization improves internal coordination because employees are trained to be flexible and work on various projects and products from within their department. This allows employees to lend their skills to their coworkers if they need.

This flexibility allows companies to expand easier because the functional model is highly scalable. Many successful organizations use this approach such as McDonald's, Amazon and the US military. This is because the model is designed to allow companies to grow without wasting resources. This divisional model has many redundant positions that increase costs as the organization grows bigger. The functional model allows companies to maximimze their economies of scale and be far more cost efficient. Many functions in an organization are more effective when done from a single centralized department such as finance and human resources. If a company were to organize these functions divisionally, there would be many positions covering the same job, grossly increasing the net labor cost incurred by the company.

Overall, the functional organizational model is far more flexible and scalable than other models, which is why it is a better structure for organizations.
