I do not know much about the technicalities of family law, but I think the best way to define family law is really any situations in which there is an issue dealing with the family itself and legal action is required. Marriage, divorce, child custody agreements and all that fall under those categoriessuch as prenuptial agreements, postnuptial agreements, divorce, the splitting of assets if no pre or postnuptial agreement is made, alimony, child support, shared custody, sole parent custody, preparation and execution of arrangements in a will, etc. That being said if I were to define family law to a friend, I would simply tell them it is and legal issues which involve the family and require resolution including marriage, divorce, custody, and final will and testaments.
