"When I started working as a manager in the company I am currently working for in 2016, my career goals were to improve my project management skills, ensure the job satisfaction of my team, and contribute to the emerging corporate culture. At that time, I had been doing project management for 3 years. I completed my apprenticeship period with a successful project in my previous company and a product that left its mark on the sector as a result. This success has opened the door for me both self-confidence and a respectable job position that I aimed for when returning to Turkey. The key to this success was my active communication and understanding the needs of everyone on the team and focusing on them in order of priority. More than the power of authority given to me by the position, the close relationships that I developed personally helped me get the full support of the team to overcome the challenges I faced. In my current company, I was going to start applying this method at the beginning of the work.
I am a person who has many friends in social life outside of work, speaks the most among friends, produces different ideas that are accepted by the majority. My enthusiasm for acting in theater, which I could not find the opportunity to be in the hustle and bustle of education and training, was formed by the comments of "why don't you perform as a theatre player" made many times by different people at different times in these friendships.
In the company I work for, I became a communicative and sharing person, and within a short time, it attracted the attention of the corporate communication team. At a conference to be held at Boazii University, they asked me to speak on behalf of the company on a topic that I would determine myself. I have never had any public speaking experience before. At first, the idea made me nervous. While I was about to decline, my wife convinced me to become a speaker. The conference, which was like a conversation with the students, went very well and when I heard that the feedback was very good, I experienced a different enthusiasm and awareness that I had never experienced before. The theater acting opportunity, which I thought I had missed, came to me in another form. And a one-man show, with a script written and directed by myself, about which I am an expert... I was reaching a different level of satisfaction during the conversations I gave, and this motivated me to chase the next opportunity.
Such conference and fair participation opportunities continued to come, but were limited to a few times a year. While I was thinking about how I can increase the frequency, I got the information that the human resources training unit is looking for those who are willing to give some outsourced trainings in-company.
As part of the first team to receive trainer training, I started to provide training in project management in 2018. Even though I came home in the evening of my training days, both mentally and physically tired because I was constantly standing and talking, I realized that the happiest days I spent at work were the days when I was training. Despite my high work pace, I was working on the weekend if necessary, pushing my plan to give training once a month. Two years in a row, I was awarded the best trainer of the company with the scores of my employees. Sometimes people have desire and motivation, but there is no opportunity; Sometimes there is an opportunity, but without being motivated, people lose the opportunity to realize themselves because of the excuses created by life. As I said in the trainings, it is true that luck is required for opportunities to come your way, but it is up to the individual to make the right decision.
