Framing the Problem or Opportunity

What is the critical problem or opportunity you will focus on?

Delaware Valley Veterans Home (DVVH) being a veteran nursing home. The opportunity that I will focus on is the expanding of nursing services of the elderly veterans at home. As I noted in the week one discussion. The current trend in the nursing home sector is the elderly preferring to stay at home with their families instead of residing in a nursing home (Hans & Zweig, 2021).

I believe the opportunity is great for DVVH. Since this will increase the number of veterans under the care of DVVH. According to Office of Policy and Planning (2021) Delaware have 78,099 veterans. Korean conflict veteran are 38, 126 and Vietnam era are 693 (Office of Policy and Planning, 2021). These two groups are definitely made up of senior citizens who mostly likely need elderly nursing services. In addition, some of Gulf War veterans are in the senior citizens category thus, they need elderly nursing services.

What type of data will you need for your analysis? Is it patient data, demographic data, product data, or another type of data?

The data that I will need is demographic data. Demographic data provides the population age, sex, income, etc. (Quelch & Rodriguez, 2015). I need to know population of the veterans and their age.

How will you obtain this data? What challenges do you anticipate in accessing the data?

I will access the data through visiting veteran websites both national and state. In addition, I will access US census U.S. Census Bureau website. One of the challenge is not accessing the data I need in the websites. To address the challenge I will write or visit the mentioned organization to request for the data.

What is your hypothesis (prediction) of what the data will tell you?

The age and population of the veterans will be crucial since it will help predict the number of veterans that might need nursing services.
