A new residential suburb has been developed in the Sandton, Johannesburg municipality. This suburb is designed for houses ranging in value of R4million and upwards. Many high profile business men and MPs (Member of Parliament) have purchased land in this suburb. Several of them have already developed their house plans and are eager to start their building projects. The municipality has run into a problem in providing the main water reticulation from the nearest reservoir to the suburb. Without water, no building project can commence. You have been appointed by the Sandton municipality as the project manager responsible to manage the provision of the main water feed to the new suburb in Sandton. Your project has been allocated a limited budget, a tight timeline and a project scope that is very clear and restrictive. You are confronted with challenges ranging from unhappy stakeholders, numerous risks that have not been identified, a project team that is becoming restless, contractors that are constantly complaining and demanding solutions, amongst others. You have been instructed by the municipality manager to deliver this project on time, within budget, scope and according to the quality standards determined.
