Since the COVID Pandemic there has been a tremendous shift in the workplace. During the COVID shut down large numbers of employees began working from home; working remotely or telecommuting. Since the shutdown, many companies have decided to make telecommuting part or all of the workweek. Companies such as Blue Cross \& Blue Shield of Tennessee, Tennessee Valley Authority, CIGNA, several CPA firms, and others, just in Chattanooga, have all or a substantial portion of their workforce working remotely, most often from home. This shift has had dramatic impact on the commercial real estate market. It is rumored that the huge Blue Cross building on the top of Cameron Hill is for sale. The CIGNA building behind the Walmart on Gunbarrel Road is for sale. It is estimated that 1 million square feet of office space in downtown Nashville will not be rented in the next 10 years. Another dilemma for companies is how to monitor the productivity of employees in this new environment. Some studies have shown that employees are more productive when working from home. Your instructor is not one of those employees. So, I have my doubts about the increased productivity of working from home.
