Please read the case study below and answer the questions with a few lines for each subsection 1a and 1b.
Please imagine that Car manufacturer Tesla is expanding into Singapore from their overseas headquarters in this fiscal year FY2023-FY2024 (April 1 2023-March 31, 2024). They have already been testing their operations in Singapore and started selling their cars. They found that there are delays in receiving shipments of customer orders from China into Singapore and they have identified the root cause to be lack of capacity on shipping lines from Chinese ports into Singapore ports. They have identified THREE ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS and have identified an ECONOMIC BENEFIT RATING scale to rank the alternatives on the basis of economic benefits as well as other criteria as shown in the table below. The Singapore Country GM for Tesla is engaging SP Jain students as a consultant to help resolve a decision deadlock that they have reached which is complicated by the fact that their analyst resigned at the last minute and left the work unfinished with missing values as shown in yellow highlight below. Please analyze the problem carefully, read the questions being asked and recommend suitable answers in clear, legible, unambiguous format with appropriate numbers and supporting calculations.
Question 1
Please study the matrix carefully and answer the questions following in a short 1-2 line format. Answers must be clear, specific, to the point and unambiguous in understandable language. If calculations are performed, please augment the number with suitable explanation that is clear, legible and unambiguous instead of just typing the final numeric answer with appropriate units.
Q.1a) Please analyze and calculate the MISSING NUMERIC VALUES in the simple additive weighted matrix shown above? Please show your calculations in a simple text based formula as well as a short phrase next to the missing value as to what that number represents. (12 Marks)
Q.1b) If the Singapore Executive team wants to do a sensitivity analysis, add and alter the economic benefit scale to a 1-3 scale (3 is highest) instead of a 1-5 scale (5 is highest), please elaborate on the NEW economic benefit scale assuming that the scale is divided equally and uses a very similar logic for lookup as the previous rating using the minimum numbers in the previous 1-5 scale only? Mention new scale and indicate the rating number, the scale description that is logical and a short justification in 1-2 lines explaining the new scale entirely. (12 Marks)
Q.1c) Based on the new scale, please recalculate the decision weights and comment on how it will impact the decision alternative selection, if any. Please share a suitable explanation for the decision alternative selection and a logical explanation of decision guidance recommendations to arrive at ONLY ONE DECISION ALTERNATIVE RECOMMENDATION only among the several candidates to the top management team based on decision science principles using this matrix only as the method. Note : You can assume that you dont have to rescale the 1-3 economic benefit scale to a 1-5 rating while calculating the decision weights (Total 26 Marks, 12 marks for correct weight calculations + 14 marks for appropriate explanations)
