All the concepts we covered during this course are extremely important and essential to a smooth running supply chain and business. Neglecting anyone of them or not implementing a concept when the time comes for it to benefit the operations of a company will hinder the growth and value of an organization. Like many aspects in life, balance is needed for success. What stood out the most though was the week where we covered visibility in a supply chain. As I stated, it is important to implement the right technology and concepts at the right times. In order to know when that right time is or what is the right course of action that needs to be taken, comes from fully understanding and knowing the chain of operations throughout a supply chain. Leadership must know what assets they have available to them and the limitations of those assets. This allows them to make strategic decisions that guide the company in the right direction while addressing issues that arise. During that week, I brought up Land O' Lakes utilizing a third party partner called FourKites. This company provides software and systems that allow supply chain managers a live view of operations and transportation assets across the whole chain of operations. This allows them to make quick, smart decisions to address issues or quickly redirect a truck to pick up a last minuet order for a customer that is within the same region of the destination they are currently headed to. Moving this kind of technology into a an app structure that employees and mangers can access on the go ensures they are ready to make informed decisions at any time during operations. I am currently looking at a position with Land O' Lakes following my time in the Navy and I very much look forward to having this kind of technology at my disposal. Knowledge is among the most important currencies to me and I plan to leverage this kind of technology to ensure I am always informed as to what is going on throughout the supply chain.
