The Leadership Academy (TLA) offers dozens of two-to-four-week leadership courses for university students in the US and the neighboring states. These courses are typically conducted on university campuses. Their three major business processes include student registration, course completion, and quality control.

student registration: TLA currently has a computerized student relationship system (SRS) with an online web-based interface through which students can register for a course. A student can search for a relevant course from a list of available courses displayed by the SRS. After evaluating its cost and duration, a student can select a course and register. During registration, the student has to input personal details into the SRS which is stored for future reference. Upon successful registration, the student has to pay in full for the course. The student has to directly call the customer services representative (CSR) at TLA if they have any special requests (such as dietary requirements). The CSR will input the special requests into the SRS.

Course completion: After a course has been completed, the course instructor will select the students who have passed the course from a list of course participants provided by the SRS. The details of students who have passed the course are stored in the SRS. The CSR will access the postal address of these students from the SRS and mail them a course completion certificate. For those students who have not successfully completed the course, the CSR will mail a 50% discount coupon for registering in a subsequent edition of the same course.

Quality control: The SRS will send an email invitation to all students to respond to a quality- assurance survey. If a student does not respond to the survey within a week, a follow-up invitation is sent. Once the survey period has ended, a research analyst evaluates the data and creates a summary that will go to the instructor and TLA VP of Quality. In the case of particularly poor results, the VP will start an investigation. The survey data and summary are stored by the SRS.
