You are required to observe at least one hour of testimony. If you choose to go to a courthouse and watch live testimony, please indicate which court you plan on observing and roughly when you will go. It must be a court proceeding where a witness will be giving testimony, so plan on attending either a hearing or a trial. If you contact your local Court Clerks Office (their contact information will be on the court website), they should be able to tell you when hearings or trials are scheduled. Any federal, state, county, court would be eligible.

What Type of Case Should You Look For?

Because this is a business law course, your primary focus should be on cases involving actual business.

Civil Court Cases:

You should consider the list of suggested cases below as examples of the types of civil court cases that you should be looking for. These cases are primarily civil law cases (contracts and torts).

Criminal Court Cases:

Any cases involving white collar crimes (all type of fraud, including Ponzi schemes; insider trading; embezzlement; bribery; extortion; cybercrimes; (computer-related crimes); criminal copyright infringement; etc.) would be very much acceptable. Cases involving corporate criminal liability and violations of RICO, the federal False Claims Act and Sarbanes Oxley would also be considered.
