- Example: 29 CFR 1910.23(b)(6) states that Wooden ladders are not coated with any material that may obscure structural defects. The ladder I found was coated with oil-based paint so it was not possible to see any cracks. It is recommended that the paint be removed or replace the wooden ladder to a metal ladder.
