Case Study: Gutierrez Enterprises: The Impossible Dream When his youngest son, Fernando, graduated Magna Cum Laude in Chemical Engineering at the University of the Philippines, Mr. Reynaldo Gutierrez was very much elated. His wife was happy that they are now finally relieved of educating their children. He may now proceed with his dream of expanding his business. Although the market for "patis" or fish sauce is steadily increasing in his area, he wants to produce other food products like "toyo" and "suka. He is at a loss, however, on how he will proceed to realize this. His daughter, Gina, a Food Technology graduate and currently working with a food manufacturing company in Manila, counseled him about the wisdom of seeking the opinion of all the children 36 regarding his problem. His son Marianito, a Mechanical Engineer, and Teodoro, a building businessman agreed with Gina's proposition. Mr. Gutierrez is not worried about financing the expansion because he has enough savings in the bank.
