Hi,
I hope you were able to get to the movies this weekend. There's some incredible films out right now!
Over the weekend, I was thinking about the process for analyzing the technology needs for this new department. The service department will need a system to support its unique needs of scheduling technicians, obtaining parts for repair, and setting up follow up appointments once parts are in-stock. I want to make sure that none of the analysis and design tasks fall through the cracks. I need you to identify all of the tasks that you will need to complete. I find it is helpful to create a Work Breakdown Structure to identify the tasks. Don't forget to include the system and industry analysis, system design, implementation plans, and security tasks in your WBS.
Thanks.
Carlie
Hi,
Nice job with the task list! Now that you've outlined the tasks, you'll need to figure out the order of the tasks and relationships between each one. It is important to do this so that we can get this analysis and design done as quickly as possible.
As best you can, assign durations to these tasks. We have some historical data in the resource library. If you are uncertain about the time estimate, I find that it best to come up with a best, worst, and most likely time estimates. Then I add up the estimates (best + worst +(4 x most likely)) by giving more weight to the most likely and then divide by 6.
Please put all of this information into your preferred project management software package and share the file with me.
Thanks.
Carlie
Hi,
Before you leave for the weekend, could you make a list of all the possible risks for this service department system project? I'd like to think about our risks over the weekend and discuss with you on Monday.
Have a great weekend!

1. Work Breakdown Structure- Use the framework below to get you started with the WBS diagram. You will need to fill in the specific tasks for each area of Systems Analysis and Design. Some of the tasks are provided in the Historical Sample Durations spreadsheet from the Resource Library. Not all of tasks are included in the Resource Library so you will also need to review the previous chapters to think of all the tasks that would go into such a project.
2. Durations: Historical sample durations for some activities are given in the Resource Library. You should use the formula \(\rightarrow \)(Best case \(+(4\times \) most likely (use Median))+ worst case)/6. Label which time frames were calculated and show your work. Time frames must use a common measurement for all tasks. 3. Project Software: Place all the tasks that you created in your WBS into MS Project or other project management software. Durations and task relationships should be added (NOTE: Not all time estimates or tasks are included in the Resource Library). Task times not included and task dependencies will vary since no direct information is given to you regarding the task relationships.
Add screen shot of your Gantt chart here.
4. Risk list: You should be able to list at least 4-5 risks for this project. Analysis and Design task durations
