Executive Summary

A complex spider web of threads circling the globe is the current supply chain, and COVID-19 came like a hurricane to poke significant holes in it. Although globalization has built supply chain resilience, mitigating many localized hazards, when the danger is big enough, it has also set us up for structural problems. COVID-19, as few products before it, had an immediate influence on the global supply chain and logistics sector. The protections that made the industry more competitive, especially outsourced manufacturing and lean inventory operations, took businesses to their knees in one fell swoop. The good news is that many are beginning the healing process, and there are still lessons we can absorb. The risk is that these have to be rapidly learned and precautions set in motion.

Global Crisis Management

The logistics industry remains buoyant despite a downturn in global economic development, partially triggered by trade disputes between the US and China. As the Covid-19 pandemic is going on, the correspondence from the Government chiefs and health organizations has a crux job in containing the spread of the infection. The significance of hygiene, hand sanitizing, practicing social distancing, and wearing of surgical masks and N-95 masks when stepping out of the house has been highlighted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and it also has been stressed over and over by the Government chiefs and Health ministries in their official correspondence.
