PLEASE TYPE RESPONSE
Edit and update your case paper by including a brief summary of where the world is currently in managing the coronavirus crisis. Based on what you have learned, consider which decisions you felt were helpful and which decisions you believe were not helpful to the global supply chain. Use the advantage of hindsight to state what you would do differently.
What mechanisms would you put in place to improve global coordination of large scale crises in the future?
How should future classes in the course be changed to include global impacts to the supply chain, global trade agreements, entry modes and global/international strategies?
Use what you learned in the course to formulate your paper and steer clear of partisan politics. At a minimum, your paper should include your original cover page, an updated one-paragraph executive summary, 3-4 pages in the body of the paper
Executive Summary
A complex spider web of threads circling the globe is the current supply chain, and COVID-19 came like a hurricane to poke significant holes in it. Although globalization has built supply chain resilience, mitigating many localized hazards, when the danger is big enough, it has also set us up for structural problems. COVID-19, as few products before it, had an immediate influence on the global supply chain and logistics sector. The protections that made the industry more competitive, especially outsourced manufacturing and lean inventory operations, took businesses to their knees in one fell swoop. The good news is that many are beginning the healing process, and there are still lessons we can absorb. The risk is that these have to be rapidly learned and precautions set in motion.
Global Crisis Management
The logistics industry remains buoyant despite a downturn in global economic development, partially triggered by trade disputes between the US and China. Due to rising logistics in ASEAN countries and the involvement of major economies such as China and India, the Asia Pacific logistics industry is growing rapidly. Moreover, the high degree of government funding for the logistics sector in the area is also a factor driving the growth of the industry. The downturn in global trade is expected to impact the volume growth and yield output of the cargo market, as growth in freight capacity is expected to outpace demand due to weakening consumer sentiment. It is expected that rail freight will gain momentum, assisted by the growth of infrastructure and the extension of the regional rail network with the expanded deployment of transmission hubs that control intermodal transport.
Over the past decade, world trade has been very dynamic, with fundamental trends driven by heavy growth in export and import traffic from China and associated economies until very recently. One of the defining phenomena of the global logistics sector has been the outsourcing of logistics. With the current trend towards outsourcing non-core competencies, the role of the logistics supplier has increased considerably Logistics industry majors across the value chain are required to emphasize operating efficiencies, with technological adoption investments. It is anticipated that freight forwarders delivering innovative online applications in freight matching, personalized brokerage, and transportation management applications would change the customer service market.
Owing to the advent of cross-border e-commerce and the growing demand for optimized supply chain solutions, the warehousing industry is expected to change dramatically with process automation. Rapid growth in the demand for eCommerce will increase competition among providers of eCommerce logistics solutions. The last-mile distribution market is expected to be reshaped by creativity in order fulfillment, delivery models, and value-added services. Both the extent of global procurement and the reach of the industries they serve have expanded for suppliers and retailers. In line with the evolving needs of their customers, many logistics firms have opted to globalize their activities.
As the Covid-19 pandemic is going on, the correspondence from the Government chiefs and health organizations has a crux job in containing the spread of the infection. The significance of hygiene, hand sanitizing, practicing social distancing, and wearing of surgical masks and N-95 masks when stepping out of the house has been highlighted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and it also has been stressed over and over by the Government chiefs and Health ministries in their official correspondence.
The choices taken by the Government heads in declaring lockdown in hotspots has a significant bearing on the regulation of the spread of the infection. The lockdowns have been viable in leveling the bend and limiting the fatalities. The choice regarding a public-private partnership for assembling ventilators and the importation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) inconvenient way offers certainty to medical workers in this battle against this infection.
It is high time that we acknowledge the definition of a leader is no longer confined to the politicians/leaders of the state, but the cops, the bureaucrats, and mainly the healthcare workers who are battling this infection head-on are the genuine pioneers in this emergency. The choices taken by them in implementing lockdown and authorizing isolate measures have a huge effect.
All and all one key way to push through this pandemic while trying to build back up the global economy is to further implement transformational leadership The two ways in which the transformational leadership style will bring astounding outcomes during this emergency are moving motivation and idealized impact. Leaders by their activities can impact the majority to take vital prudent steps like wearing of masks now and then, social distancing, and hand sanitization as often as possible.
The visits by the government leaders to tainted hotspots help in boosting the spirits of the overall population. During this emergency, it is critical that the inspiration of the people working on the frontline like healthcare professionals, police, banks, and media are amazingly high and they are carrying out their responsibilities in a devoted manner. This will require acknowledgment of their brave exertion and giving them the acclaim and applause which they truly are earning.
