PMAN 635 Session 10 Individual Assignment
Instructions:Answer both the questions. Show your work and provide explanations.
1. The following table shows the information on a marketing project. It is currently at the end of day 48. Assume that planned progress and expenditure are uniform for each activity - for example, if an activity takes 8 days but has been in progress for only three days, then you can assume that 3/8 of the activity is planned to be completed and 3/8 of its budget is planned to be spent during those three days. Obviously, if the percentage complete is zero, then the activity has not started, hence not incurred any cost (so, its actual cost is zero).
- (40 points) Determine the project's SPI, and CPI at this point (end of day 48).
- (25 points) Interpret the SPI and CPI by stating and explaining whether the project is doing better/worse than plan on schedule and cost. Also, forecast the actual cost (at completion) of Activity 4, assuming that its future expenditure (past day 48) is reflective of the past expenditure pattern
Activity # | Duration (days) | Predecessors | Budget | Actual Cost | % Complete |
1 | 10 | NA | $300 | 250 | 100 |
2 | 8 | 1 | $400 | 450 | 100 |
3 | 6 | 2 | $350 | 380 | 100 |
4 | 12 | 2 | $400 | 400 | 70 |
5 | 18 | 3 | $405 | 0 | 0 |
6 | 16 | 5 | $480 | 0 | 0 |
2. (35 points) There are two major projects in progress in your organization: Project A - Software Development and Project B - Annual tradeshow whose cumulative cost/resource curves are shown in the chart below. Both projects last for a year (the x-axis corresponding to months).
In Month #7, you require an immediate input of a resource being used by both projects A and B for a superimportant project C which you are managing, and you need to divert that resource from one of Projects A or B to Project C. From which project would you divert the resource, and why? Note that there is no single "correct" answer but your explanation should clearly justify whatever decision you recommend, meaning that it is acceptable to consider scenarios or make assumptions (provided that you clearly state them).
