Question: [Problem 1] 10 points If value for an airline passenger is defined as reaching from point A (departure terminal of home airport) to point B

[Problem 1] 10 points

If value for an airline passenger is defined as reaching from point A (departure terminal of home airport) to point B (arrival terminal of destination airport) in the shortest possible time, what specific steps (why and how) would you suggest to improve the value of the process, that is, reduce the total time to reach from A to B. Please use less than 180 words for answering the question. Please make sure that your answer is clear and well written. You can use up to two figures if you want to. The current process is as follows:

The passenger does online check-in, prints boarding pass at home, drops the baggage in a separate line without waiting in the longer regular check in queue. He or she then collects boarding pass, goes to security check, and proceeds to the boarding gate where he gets seated and waits for boarding to start. Once the boarding starts, the passenger gets the boarding pass stamped and goes and sits in a bus that takes the passenger to the airplane. The passenger then climbs up the flight of stairs and sits in his/her seat in the flight. After getting down the flight the passenger collects baggage from carousel and heads to the exit to hire a taxicab. The flight is local so no need to undergo immigration or customs.

Airports can do many things in airports to improve the efficiency of the work. As fast is the process being accomplished as

[Problem 2] 12 points Explain how Conceptual Design Principles can be used effectively to improve our registration system used by SQU students to register for courses. You may consider any part or parts of the process, for example, registering overload, enrolling for a course that is full, etc. Any four principles out of the 10 principles shown in figure 3.9 on page 93 of the book. [Problem 3] 8 points Use the data provided in the text file for input analysis and suggest the top four best distributions ranked from one to four as shown in the table below. Provide justification for the ranking.

4th best

[Problem 4] 10 points Bank Muscat has a branch on SQU campus. Customers usually come to the bank to perform teller transactions like depositing check, paying fees, or apply for a loan or pick debit/credit card. The steps are as follows.

On entering the bank, customer queues at the reception desk to collect appointment token which displays a token number. Customers then get seated in a waiting area until their token number is displayed on the screen. The screen also displays the token number and the window to approach for receiving service. Once the customer is done with the transaction, we assume that the customer exits the bank for simplification purposes.

Develop a simulation model based on above description. Assume your own times and distribution for the model. For example you may assume that the interarrival time is expo (5) which means that the interarrivals are average 5 minutes between two customers following an exponential distribution or any time other than 5 minutes based on how much time it should take in your opinion. Other distributions you may use for interarrivals and service process include expo (n), TRIA (m,n,o), NORM(a,b), and UNIF(p,q) where you put the numbers you feel appropriate in the brackets. For more information you can check the chapter Modeling Input Data. Avoid Gamma, Beta since they are complicated.
