An object is located 50 cm away from a converging lens with a focal length of 30 cm . The setup is shown in a reduced scale below. Assume that the lens is very thin: use the vertical dotted line as the location where the rays refract.
A. Draw a ray diagram to find the image. Make sure that its height and location are clear. You only need to draw 2 special rays but draw more if you'd like. Use a straightedge and be as accurate as possible.
B. Use a ruler to measure, in mm, the height and location of the object and of your image in the figure. Use the appropriate sign to indicate whether the image is real or virtual, upright or inverted. Use these measurements to compare the ratio of the height of the image to that of the object with the ratio of the location of the image to that of the object.
C. Use the lens formula to calculate the expected location of the image. Use the equation(s) to calculate the expected magnification of the image, compare with the results from Part C.
