Problem $2.$ I have some $\backslash (1/2\backslash )$ inch plywood on top of a bearing plate supported by the steel column as shown. The bearing plate is $3$ in $\backslash (\backslash$times $3\backslash )$ in $($square$)$ on the top of the steel column. I am worried about the wood shearing around the entire perimeter of the plate. If the shear strength of the wood is $2200$ psi, how much load can be put on the plywood $($not directly over the column$)$ before it fails?
