Problem #2 Normal Depth - Rectangular Channel
This problem will require the use of Excel, MATLAB, or other software. You must attach your spreadsheets and/or codes for me to review.
For a rectangular channel, Slope =0.0001,15ft bottom width:
a refer to Table 5.1.1 in Chapter 5 of Mays and determine the normal depth for a discharge of 100 cfs using Manning's roughness coefficients for Concrete (5.1.1, B-2c - pick 1), Channels not maintained with dense weeds (Ce1), Flood plains (D-2- pick 1), and Major streams (D-3- pick 1)make sure you do not repeat roughness values.
b Plot normal depth (y-axis) vs Manning's roughness (x-axis)- label your x and y -axis
c In a few sentences, explain what happens to normal depth as we change our Manning's roughness.
Hint: All normal depths range from 2 ft to 12 ft
