Question: Problem 3 : ( 2 0 ) Given: A W 2 1 times 5 5 beam is connected to a W 2 7

Problem 3: (20)
Given: A W21\times 55 beam is connected to a W27\times 102 girder using a 38in, thick double-angle, weldedbolted, simple shear connection as shown in the figure below and in accordance with Part 10 of the AISC Steel Construction Manual. The web of the beam is fastened with five (5)-34in. diameter A490X bolts, and the double angles are welded to the web of the girder with E70 electrodes. Assume deformation is a design consideration. You are allowed to use design tables provided in the AISC Manual to solve this problem. Assume A992 fnr the members and A572, Gr.50 for the angle.
Find: Determine ASD strength of the above connection, considering the following limits:
Answer:
A. Bolt Shear
B. Bolt Bearing and Tearout
C. Weld rupture
_kips (5)
D. Block shear of beam kips (5) kips (5) kips (5)
