Problem 4: We have been asked to construct a power supply to be used in an optics experiment. The power supply will be applied to a to a device to control the polarization of light incident on a sample. The device has two states, 0 V applied which creates one polarization state and 80 V applied which creates the alternate polarization state.
Design a DC power source that can supply the 80 V needed for the experiment. The device will be the load and can be modeled as a \(10\mathrm{k}\Omega \) resistor. We have a set of high voltage components available to us, as well as the 80 V Zener Diodes for use in the Regulator portion of the circuit. The Zener has been characterized as having a VZO of 79.9 V and an \(\mathrm{r}_{z}\) of \(5\Omega \). We have a suitable transformer that has a ratio of 10/6, and we will have to use the line voltage from the wall as your source (\(120\mathrm{~V},60\mathrm{~Hz}\)).
Provide a schematic with all relevant component values and calculations.
