Project 1: Line Six Restructuring - Recommendation & Announcement

Welcome to your new Internal Communications Coordinator role. Were happy to have you on board. I will be supporting you as your supervisor and mentor here at Bolt Plastics.

If you havent already, please watch the intro message I left for you on your dashboard. Moving forward I will assume you have watched it.

Bolt Plastics is a medium-sized manufacturing firm that specializes in designing and producing plastic molds for a wide variety of industry needs. The firm employs 430 people over six production lines.

As I mentioned in my email, Bolt Plastics recently completed a highly confidential agreement with Nigik Robotics to convert the small materials production line (also referred to as Line 6) to a fully-automated process that will reduce labour requirements from seventy people to five.

Bolts CEO has given Celine Devray the task of executing the downsizing. She has asked the communications team for advice on releasing this news to the company. You have been assigned to advise her on what aspects of the proposal to emphasize in her announcement.

You have three major tasks for this project.

1. Introduce yourself to Ms. Devray and a key union representative to understand key perspectives during this tense time at the company,
2. Review the executive summary of the downsizing proposal closely and recommend two or three key elements of it for Celine to emphasize in her announcement of the downsizing.
3. Write a draft announcement memo for Celine.
