Project 11: Flag Creation

Your objective is to create a set of files to be used as flags that will be stored on computers

used in a capture the flag cyber security competition. One file should be a true flag and ones related to it should be a false flag. These files should have a means to validate whether or not they are the correct ones to capture (true or false). You will need to identify and document the industry standard process you used to create these files and the means to validate them. Submit your report and the files (along with any supporting documentation) in the appropriate dropbox. Your report should include appropriate screen captures and references.

Create a master document with the following details

o Section 1: Document the process for creating the files to be used as flags and your process for creating the flag validation method

o Section 2: Document the characteristics of the files (type, data within, size), the names of the files (distinguishing between the false and true flags), and the validation key or hash or whatever else you are using to distinguish the true flag from the false ones

o Section 3: Document the step-by-step instructions someone would use to validate your files

Create one true flag and four false flag files

o All files should be in the same format (e.g. all PDFs, all html, all word documents, etc.)

o There should be nothing about the files that can be used to distinguish the true from false flags through visual inspection and comparison between the five files (e.g. name, size, etc.)

Create a reference document (1 page length maximum) that has the following details

o Flag file names and their associated validation result

o Instructions to validate the files (should be very similar to the master document, section 3)
