A proposed building plan is as shown in Figure $1.$ Structural analysis yielded the column loads given in Table $1.$ The building will be placed on the soil profile given in Figure $2,$ with the soil properties presented in Table $2.$

$1.$ Consider a mat foundation and determine the allowable bearing capacity using the minimum mat size $($DAS$/$CH$6).$ Check settlement criterion as well, ensuring the differential settlement beneath the mat does not cause angular distortion.

$2.$ Check if the minimum mat size is safe in carrying the given loads.

$3.$ Do complete structural design. $\backslash (\backslash$mathrm$\{$f$\}\_\{\backslash$mathrm$\{$c$\}\}=21\backslash$mathrm$\{$MPa$\},\backslash$mathrm$\{$f$\}=400\backslash$mathrm$\{$MPa$\}\backslash ),$ columns: $\backslash (50\backslash$times $50\backslash$mathrm$\{$~cm$\}\backslash ).$ You can make reasonable assumptions, if necessary, in accomplishing these steps.
