Project Description - What do you want to do? What will you do (with your team) that will have an impact that is important and meaningful to those your project is intended to help? Keep in mind the following points when deciding on your project. Your project should be ambitious, requiring a minimum of 40 hours of work from you and your teammates (combined). You are not to personally earn money from your project; any proceeds generated have to be donated (e.g., to a nonprofit of your choosing). There should not be any safety issues for you, your teammates, or those you are intending to help. Please describe your project in the space below:

Explain why this project is ambitious enough to require 40 or more hours of your teams time. List all details needed to explain the time commitment you anticipate.

Part 2: S.M.A.R.T. Goals

What goals will your team work to achieve? You need to identify between 1 and 4 S.M.A.R.T. goals for your project. The number of goals you have will depend on your project. If you had thought of more than four goals, you can combine related goals to reduce your number of goals. S.M.A.R.T. Goals are:

• Specific: Clarify the Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How relevant to your goals, so that exactly what you want to accomplish is clear.
• Measurable: Progress towards your goal can be demonstrated and evaluated.
• Aggressive: Stretch goals that are difficult are the most motivating.
• Realistic: Goals should be realistically attainable. Impossible goals are not motivating.
• Time-bound: Setting target dates and benchmarks helps hold you accountable for accomplishing your goals.

To be clear, EACH of your goals must meet ALL 5 of these components (S, M, A, R, AND T). Example of a S.M.A.R.T. goal statement: Our team will have at least three communications (i.e., sending cards, letters, or phone calls) with 100 seniors in local nursing homes or senior living facilities by April 15th.

This goal statement is S.M.A.R.T. because it is:

• Specific - clarified # (three in this example) and types of communication (sending cards, letters, or phone calls in this example)
• Measurable - listed the # of communications and # of seniors
• Aggressive but Realistic - 100 people and at least three communications is not easy but would be doable with a strong team
• Time-bound - completed by the project deadline of April 15th!

It is often a good idea to set goals related to important project milestonesthat will be critical for obtaining your teams ultimate goal. For example, a milestone goal that would precede the goal described above would be learning about any restrictions the nursing home has on what can be given to the seniors there. This SMART goal statement might be: Next, you will be asked to list your 1-4 S.M.A.R.T. goals. Be sure to use appropriate grammar and complete sentences when writing your goals statements. Someone not involved with your project should be able to understand what you are aiming to accomplish.
