Project Scheduling Assignment The purpose of this assignment is for you: Demonstrate mastery of concepts involved in: o Developing project schedules using the critical path method o Dealing with uncertainty in project scheduling Reflect on how project scheduling is performed in your organization While computer tools are useful for doing this work in the real world, hand-solved problems demonstrate and reinforce understanding of the concepts involved. For Part 1 of this assignment, you will first do a schedule network analysis by hand, then check your work using whatever electronic means you wish. Part 1: Project Scheduling using the Critical Path Method Using the project activity data listed in Table 1: Project Activities and using pen or pencil and paper: Draw a network diagram for the project using the precedence diagramming method (PDM) and the following node notation format:
ES ID EF TS FS LS Dur LF ES = Early Start ID = Activity ID TS = Total Slack FS = Free Slack LS = Late Start Dur = Duration EF = Early Finish LF = Late Finish
Do forward and backward pass calculations and indicate the early and late start and finish times. Indicate the critical path. Indicate the total and free slack of each activity. Include a readable scan or photo of this drawing in your submission. Check your work with a computer-based project scheduling tool such as Microsoft Project (see Meredith et al, 2017, pp. 152-154). Include a screen shot of this check or the MS Project file with your submission.
